Draw-a-Doodle Dandy
What to expect at the session
The idea behind DaDD is to give an entirely new twist on life modelling (with a tongue in cheek approach) using a mix of life and costume modelling along with creative sets and scenery dictated by a new theme every month. There will be a wide range of poses from gestural and dynamic, to long sustained poses for greater in-depth studies, as well as opportunities to draw from double poses on occasions.
These sessions are designed to inspire and build upon life drawing skills and are excellent for new, budding artists and students through to skilled tutors and artists looking to push the creative boundries of life drawing.
Session Format
The basic format of each session will start with short gestural poses using a of mix props and partial costumes and set. The creation of a wide range of poses is crucial, some poses will be experimental whilst others will be tried and tested.
The next portion of the session will move on to longer poses between 10 to 30 minutes utilising more costumes, set, props and lighting.
The second half of the session after a break will look at 1, 2 or sometimes perhaps 3 longer sustained poses of 30, 60 or 120 minutes (with a comfort break).
A Relaxed Affair
The whole affair should be a relaxed and fun day of drawing, working with a professional life model Sarena (Sarena has 9 years experience of life modelling) and a whole host of guest models from first timers to old hands who will be using a range of thematic costumes, props and sets to create more inspiring, challenging and unusual compositions to enliven drawing and excite art.
Themes
Themes are selected by either the process of highlighting interesting scenarios and poses or the desire to wear wacky and wonderful clothes and costumes but always with the emphasis of what you artistic types might find enjoyable.
Equipment
You will need to bring your own equipment and drawing/painting media. Unfortunately at this point we do not have any easels or boards for you to use, so please make sure that you bring everything that you might need for the day. You may bring whatever media you like but you will also have to ensure that not one spot of any wet media is left evident in the building otherwise DaDD is charged and will unfortunately have to pass that charge on to you.
Photography
As this event includes life modelling (i.e. nude modelling) we expressly forbid any photography of any kind. If you would like to take photographs using our models/costumes for use in portfolio work please speak to one of our staff and arrangements can be made for a reasonable modelling fee. We will of course be taking our own photographs to keep a record of our work and to use on our website, please say if you do not wish to photographed.
Tutorless
Draw-a-Doodle Dandy is an untutored life class drawing/painting session. If you would like help from a professional artist or tutor then we can point you in the right direction - we know loads of artists! Of course Sarena has in the past been a student of life drawing herself and has along the way, picked up a few handy tips. Drop in early if you need any pointers on getting started in life drawing and she'll be only too happy to help.
Refreshments
There will indeed be cake, tea, coffee and light snacks at really reasonable prices.
Cancellation
DaDD reserve to right to cancel the session at any time, reluctantly and even at short notice. If DaDD cancel the session you will receive a full refund or a place on the next session. At this point in time we sadly cannot offer a refund if you cancel the session, although you are welcome to sell your ticket on.
Seating
There are 20 tables (which serve at least 3) and lots of chairs including some really comfy ones, so arrive early to get a good spot and the nicest table. There is space for a maximum of 35 seated and up to 10 easel spaces, please let us know if you will be bringing an easel.
Age
Anyone can attend DaDD but you must be of consenting adult age, 16 and over or accompanied by a grown up.
I've never even drawn before
Then don't you worry, drawing is all about practice, in fact everything takes practice including life modelling so don't be shy and come and give it a go. If you are completely new to drawing get in touch prior to the session for some help and pointers on what to do and how to get started. Don't worry, we don't bite. DaDD is here to inspire because we're so enthusiastic about life drawing and very creative at heart. Plus every artist has to start somewhere and we all know what practice makes.
